On Finding Courage At A Picnic

This weekend we picnicked at our favorite nature preserve. I was dreamily watching Little Butterfly and "Baba" work a toy propeller airplane when suddenly, she ran off. Curiously, Baba and I followed behind her, giving her some space to explore. She walked up a hill where other children were playing, and watched quietly for a few moments. She then picked up a large rock the size of a mango, and slowly carried it over as an offering to a boy who looked a few years older. I couldn't make out what was being said, but Little Butterfly stuck around for 5 whole minutes, talking and responding about the rock she lugged over. My heart soared for her courage!

It might have been small step for most toddlers. But it was a giant leap for Little Butterfly.
