Little Things, Big Things

Mama thoughts are wondrous things. They can plan all these little details that make up our days: nutritious dinners, chores that still need to be done, and an art-themed playdate - all the while breastfeeding a five month old, and watching a toddler play dress-up. We can spend a great deal of our time categorizing, listing, and brainstorming the small things, can't we? And when we collapse at the end of the day, too tired to read beyond 5 pages of our new book, it feels so good to reflect on the big moments:

:: Noticing Sister Butterfly leading her own play at home more and more - from lining up beads on a mirror to making her own Sparkle Soup!
::Brother Butterfly rolling this way and that, reaching for toys and trying his very best to communicate with us through ear bursting screeches and soft chuckles.
::Sister Butterfly starting preschool for 2 half days a week, and skipping out the door confidently while her teacher described her as "an amazing kid that's more like a 4th grader!"
::Attending a street festival and suddenly feeling part of a lovely community.
::Brother Butterfly army crawling off his blanket, grunting and so dedicated.
::Our dwarf hamster, beloved Furry, going to the Rainbow Bridge and Sister Butterfly coming to her own conclusions about life and death.
::Getting more time to myself while the children are at school or napping.

The little details serve their purpose and make our days run smoothly. But it's the those big moments that allows us to finally close our exhausted eyes, and look forward to what tomorrow's adventures will bring.
